![]() While this book has an interesting plot, it somehow lacked background. In the story, their paths cross and this effects an irrevocable change in the persona of the novel’s anti-hero Jule. Their lives are as different from each other as the oxymoronic title of this book. ![]() This is the story of two teenage American girls Imogen Sokoloff and Jule Williams. While this book starts off on a pretty promising note because of its unique reverse chronological structure, some social commentary on women’s rights, and the fun references to comic book superheroes, it does not maintain this momentum throughout. Reading this book made me doubt myself and begin to question whether I was doing something wrong? Was I missing something? They shift and move and create the phrase “Fraud Genuine.” This is a book that might just mess with you and how you see yourself as a reader. ![]() ![]() Genuine Fraud…notice the oxymoron in the title? As the plot line progresses, the Baudelaires continues to confront various mysteries surrounding their family and conspiracies that involve a secret society known as V.F.D which has connections to both Olaf and their parents as well.Ībsurdist sexuality characterizes the series, and Victorian Gothic tones and the books are remarkably known for their sarcastic storytelling, dark humor and anachronistic elements and numerous literary and cultural illusions. Hardingham has a beautiful voice, but she renders all the intervening characters’ voices as if the story took place in southern Georgia rather than the Midwest.
